urban hike

last weekend i also went on an urban hike (horay holiday weekends!). what’s that you ask? well, inspired by the gorgeous weather, and too lazy to drive an hour out of SF, i decided to just hike in town. the topography is interesting enough, and hiking in town means i don’t have to lug about large water bottles or picnic supplies. i simply stop when and where i want, and have a snack there :*)

on this hike i intended to brunch at Tartine Bakery. so i started out in Potrero Hill and moved west. i then wanted to go up through Haight, and out west via Golden Gate Park. my final destination was to be the Sutro Baths out by the Cliff House.

how did that actually pan out? well.. being a holiday weekend, i was off to a lazy start. by the time we got to Tartine, it was packed, so brunch took longer than we anticipated. side note: their sandwiches are delicious, but HUGE. the price definitely reflects the large slabs of melty, cheesy, bread-y goodness that will be coming your way. oh, and don’t bother with the bread pudding ;*) just trust me on that..

back to it – so after a long, heavy brunch (so much cheese *_*), we continued our walk. we went through lower Haight, then up to Alamo Square (unintended, but it was a fantastic place to break and take in the view), and then out through the Western Addition. by the time we got to Geary, it was nearly 4:30pm and starting to get chilly out. still wanting to make it to the Sutro Baths by sunset, we cheated and jumped on a bus.

and i’m glad we did :*) just in time!

i hope to get out and do more urban hikes like this one, it was a fun way of taking in the sites while eating my way through places i rarely get to. i’m also hoping to get back to the Sutro Baths and explore the site. you can’t really tell in these pics, but there is a lot going on down there – all kinds of caves, nooks, and crannies to explore.

  1. You take such stunning pictures! It’s a shame you didn’t get one with Sutro Sam in it.
