‘San Francisco – where the women are strong and the men are beautiful!’
we recently took our English friend out for another San Francisco experience. where to this time? Asia SF. those of you who know – well! you know :*) and those who don’t – sigh where to begin..?
the evening of our girls’ night out, i knew i was going to drink a lot, so i called a Lyft. a nice young man accepted my request and swiftly got me on my way to the rendezvous point. one of the girls in our party is subletting the apartment of a very-good-bartender. two walls of the bartender’s kitchen are floor-to-ceiling shelves filled with every kind of liquor you can legally buy in this town! there was also a huge slice of chocolate cake waiting for me, so you see why i was in such a good mood and ready to chirp about it.
i excitedly told my driver about my girls’ night just-starting. ‘oh, Asia ess-eff?’ he asked with a light accent. i smiled and nodded. ‘do they have good food there?’ ‘well.. ‘ ‘it must be Asian cuisine, right? and i should know, i AM Asian..’ this is where i danced around for a bit, only confusing the poor guy even more, but i was careful because i wasn’t sure how he’d feel about a gay cabaret show. i finally just told him, ‘its a drag show. they serve dinner and drag queens dance and perform.’ i held my breath, hoping this young man, obviously not from around here, wouldn’t be offended. ‘OHHH! I LOVE DRAG SHOWS!‘ he squealed, ‘iwasjustinVegasandOHMYGAWD!!!’ ha! why do i worry so? ;*)
Asia SF is one of the premier drag dinner theater (?) shows on the west coast. i know it can get confusing – what with ladies cat-calling sexy women, who are really men, but look very much like ridiculously hot chicks (yes, their tits are real!), dancing provocatively half naked on a bar.. where was i? oh, right: the dancing, the gender bending, beautiful lingerie, the celebration of all things female sexuality. ah! it’s a San Francisco landmark, showcasing a prominent slice of the local culture with such skill and expertise. and it was the perfect place for a girls’ night out, where we could let our hair down and indulge in a bit of goddess worship.
