on Sunday my guide exposed me to a more serious side of Yosemite – she took me on a longer trek to Nevada Falls (5.4 miles, with 2000ft elevation change). my office softened legs are still aching from the hike, and i regret none of it!
the hike took us the better half of a day, but part of that is due to the fact that we made friends on the trail with a couple of people headed the same way. i think we spent over an hour at the top of the falls playing on a frozen patch of river. we danced, raced, moon walked, and did yogic head stands.
yes, it was so cold and the river-ice so thick that it supported four adults giggling and flapping about; but the skies were clear and the sun was bright. it really was a perfect introduction to Yosemite.
as i mentioned before, this place is only a 3-hour drive from San Francisco. we were away for 2 days, but it felt so completely different and removed from my life in the city. it is comforting to know such a place exists and is well within reach.
