Miss Van

graffiti 2014/01/28

i don’t recall when or how i discovered her, but Miss Van has been one of my favorite artists for some time now. she got her start in the 1990s, tagging the streets of Toulouse, France. her work was completely different from other graffiti artists – her characters were soft, sometimes cute, sometimes creepy, and cartoonish with an adult disposition. after gaining recognition for her work, she moved to Barcelona. there she has contributed to the graffiti scene as well as establishing herself as a professional artist whose work commands high prices in galleries around the world.

just last weekend i discovered that Miss Van has left her mark in San Francisco!! i’m a little sad that i missed her, she only just did this piece in November, but i can’t tell you in words how excited i am to have happened by this piece while it’s still up! *  * ****sigh*  *    *

this was found in Lower Haight, just a block away from the Upper Playground shop on Fillmore Street.

i   l o v e  Miss Van’s style. there’s an element of street, but also fine art. she paints with brushes, she uses vibrant colors, her character are something of a dream, or a nightmare, they have personality, they’re sexy, they’re almost real. ahhhh!
