more firsts :*D i’ve finally made it out to Tahoe!
too many people shot me puzzled looks when they heard it was going to be my first visit, ‘you’ve never been? haven’t you been living out here for 10 years now..?’ yes, yes.. but maybe i didn’t have the right opportunity or an invitation. that’s not true, i’ve been invited so many times. i just finally decided i would make time for it. and i am so glad i did!
Lake Tahoe is the largest alpine lake in North America. it is nestled into the Eastern Sierras on the California-Nevada state border. and most importantly, it is a beloved playground for all of California and Nevada. in the summer, people go boating, water skiing, and swimming in the warm blue waters, and hiking in the hills, partying at the casinos… in the winter, people flock to the mountains to ski, snowboard, snowshoe, anything you want in that glorious fluffy pow pow. my first visit happened to occur right after a massive storm blew through, so i was greeted with inches and inches of powder, perfect conditions to learn how to snowboard in.
*thanks to our new Mountain-dad – we now know how to properly install chains
and learn to snowboard i did! the hills were covered in soft powder and the sun was shining, half the time i didn’t even need my jacket. i only fell a few times, and seemed to have decent control by Sunday afternoon. i can’t wait to go back! (of course we had In-N-Out, we hit those mountains hard and were famished!)
its funny, once again i’m finally discovering a local institution – Lake Tahoe and all its glory is just a few hours drive from San Francisco. i’m feeling more like a Californian having spent a weekend in the big wide open, snapping on snow chains, gliding down really big hills, and using words like ‘pow pow’ and ‘epic’. now i need to figure out when my next trip out will be, i have at least another 8 weeks left in this season ;*)
